These alternators are ready to install. Just follow the directions.
Charge your battery before installation of the Alternator.
Failure to do so WILL shorten the life of your alternator.
In the event your unit does not work
1) Recheck your connections.
2) Make sure a good Dash Alternator light bulb is in the circuit
NO DASH ALTERNATOR LIGHT= NO CHARGING
Do Not use an LED bulb for the warning light
Please Note! It may be necessary to reverse the large bushing on the mounting ear in order to fit properly.
Additionally, Check the clearance between the lower alternator adjusting arm and the alternator fan to make sure there is no binding after the install. If not slide the lower arm off it’s post and cut or grind about ¼ inch of material to get the proper clearance from the fan. If your belt doesn’t fit see your local auto parts store and take your old belt with you. They will be able to fit you up with the right size belt. MGC required Napa #25-9420. A narrower number is 25-7410.
Wiring: You will only need to do some simple wiring.
1.) Remove the Lucas plug
2.) Using eyelets (provided) attach Large and Small Solid Brown wires from the starter along with the Large Red wire (S) on the new plug, to the battery post on the alternator.
3.) Connect the Small Brown (L) on the new plug to the Brown with yellow tracer from the wire harness (this is the alternator light on the dash and must be in good working order). (Provided are 1/4 inch male/female spade connectors.)
4.) The remaining Brown wire (F) and Gray wire (P) on the new plug, can be cut off If desired.
Please charge your battery before installation of the Alternator.
Note: Bushing may need to be reversed to fit and acquire better alignment.
That's it!

CS 130
Lucas, aka the prince of darkness, made the world a very dark place. From the moment I installed (very easy even with a dislocated shoulder!), I heard a "clap" and there was light! 14.5 vdc at 3000 rpm, 13.9 with lights and 13.1 with lights and aux cooling fan! No more stalling due to low fuel pressure, run down battery, or rolling brownout! Thanks!

Alternator
The alternator installed easily and the instructions were excellent. Once it was installed it had a whine. I spoke with Ed at 13 and he suggested checking the belt adjustment and making sure the battery was fully charged. He also offered to repair the alternator should that be the problem. It turns out that the battery was not accepting a full charge so a new battery stopped the whine. I love the alternator. My lights are really bright and my MGB starts every time. My thanks to ED for his sound advice, great customer service and a great product. Glad you are up and running - For anyone reading this batteries that will not accept a full charge will shorten the life of any alternator. Whenever you replace an alternator make sure you fully charge the battery.

Alternatir
I followed the excellent instructions. The new alternator installed easily and the fan belt on my 1977 MGB was the correct size. My old Lucas alternator had threads in the alternator for the bolt that attached the adjustment bracket so I had to get a nut and bolt I had to purchase a smaller wire connector to connect the small brown wire to the green and yellow wire. My trip to thaw auto parts store for the wire connector and bolt took more time than the alternator installation. The alternator works great. It cured my electrical problems. I’ve driven the car 3 times on short local trips and am very pleased with one exception. I am hearing a noise that seems to come from the alternator. I hear a whir that increased when I press the gas. My plan is to first replace the old fan belt and check under the hood to see where the whine comes My car now starts every time and I love the bright lights. If I discover the whine is the belt or something else under the hood I would change my review from a 4 to a 5

1980 MGB Upgrade
I received this very quickly by mail once ordering and have finally got around to installing it a few weeks later. I had an old Lucas alternator with the two large brown wires for supply to the starter. I am not sure if this was the original or a replacement by a previous owner. For me the install was not difficult but not as easy as it seems for everyone else. Mine did not line up well with the existing brackets so I had to pound in the bushing on the new alternator to the other side to get things to line up well. I also had to adjust the bracket mounted on the engine block. Once all this was done it lined up well and the belt went back on in good alignment. Like others have mentioned with this two wire alternator I had to get another eyelet for a total of 3 attaching to the post. I also made a rubber boot out of a PCV valve tube I found at O'reillys to cover the post. Looks kind of like a spark plug boot. When I started the car for the first time and turned on the headlights I couldn't believe how bright they were. The alternator light no longer flickers at idle and I measured 14.5v at idle at the new alternator. The old one only put out 12.8v at idle and 13.5v at 1500 rpm. I am not sure if my old alternator was bad or on its last leg or if it was just undersized in the first place. It did kill the battery a few times with the stereo on at night and heat running so it definitely could not keep up with all the electrical demands of the car. All in all this is a great upgrade. Charles Thanks for the input I will start including an extra eyelet with the kit. Ed

A great upgrade
My alternator was dying in my '73 Midget and I went with this replacement. It was a little more than I wanted to spend, but it was worth it. I can now run all my electrics without worrying about the battery draining. Well worth it. Fast shipping from 123 as well... I ordered late Thursday and it was delivered Monday morning.

Midget 1500 upgraded alternator
Couldn't have been any easier to install without someone coming to do it for me.

At this time I have not been successful in installing the alternator. The reason is that I have installed air conditioning on my 1974 1/2 MGB GT. The adjusting bracket is different from the standard MGB alternator adjusting bracket. A case screw a

Alternator Upgrade
Hi 123, First I’m a loyal 123 user, I’ve had the 123 distributer for years, and always recommend it. And, despite the notice on your website about slow delivery due to the holiday season (completely reasonable) you got my purchase of the 105 Amp Alternator out the door without delay. Now for the feedback… Do Not Use FedEx Ground. USPS is faster, has better delivery than either FedEx or UPS, and if I’m not mistaken their shipping cost is lower!?! Can’t review the product yet, it just arrived today and it’s part of an electric upgrade and A/C installation that’s going to take at least another few weeks. Thanks again. Steve Opitz

BGT Upgrade
My 71 BGT w/ AC had a new 65 amp alternator unfortunately it could not keep up. With the AC on the ignition light would dimly glow. Switched to the upgraded CS 105 amp alternator and works perfectly. Easy installation w/ good instruction. Thanks

CS130 made in CHINA
I was very disappointed to see the made in china sticker on the plain white box. I would probably been better off just buying a Lucas alternator. I was trying to up the quality w/ the US Delco over the Lucas, so much for that. I also believed that it came with a larger dia. pulley but it didn't. Frank Sorry you were disappointed, You may find it a hassel but you are welcome to send it back for a refund. Ed

Excellent Upgrade!
The CS-130 alternator is one of the best upgrades we can do for our Lucas equipped LBCs. My order for the alternator was processed quickly and I found it to be professionally packaged and the instructions were easy to follow. I installed on a late model RB MGB and I did need one trip to the hardware store to complete the install. Late model MGBs have two large solid brown wires (vice the large and small mentioned in the instructions) and they will not fit in the eyelet provided - you need two of them. All in all, this is a real easy installation and the alternator is a huge improvement over the Lucas that it replaces.
