Wish I had done this earlier
Installed on an 82 VW Vanagon with a Type 4 air-cooled. Before installing, it had either poor low end torque (too retarded) or poor high end performance (too advanced). Points are a pain on the stock distributor. I'd bought a rebuilt stock distributor, pointless ignition from Pertronix. It ran worse. The 123ignition distributor is well made. I've had it in for a day and ran the van up a couple 6000 foot passes. Around town with the AC running. It never faltered. Low end power is better than it ever was. Couple installation notes: -It does have a preloaded map. This isn't appropriate for a type 4. You need to check the Bentley shop manual and set your own advance map. Setting up the distributor requires setting the static timing. The LED to facilitate this may be hidden by the armature. Rotate way past the LED and the back the other way until it lights. You'll still need to check the timing and sync it to the Bluetooth output displayed on your phone. It's not plug and play, so understanding ignition variables is necessary before attempting.
