This spacer is typically required to ensure proper fitment on Porsche and VW engines.
If you’re unsure, measure your distributor and compare the portion that inserts into the block with the drawing. If the dimension from the mounting flange to the bottom of the drive dog is 58 mm (44 mm + 14 mm), you’ll likely need the spacer.
Spacer dimensions: 27 mm ID × 35.5 mm OD × 7 mm thick
Most distributors include the spacer and will be labeled “w/ spacer.”
