    BE CAREFUL your engine may have a different drive gear on the camshaft than a "2002" M10 engine. 
    In 1980 BMW started turning the distributors in the M10 engines the other way. 
    You cannot swap a pre 1980 distributor into a 1980 and later M10 (or the other way around).
    Even if you were to change the gear on the distributor so it turns the correct way the advance mechanism would work backwards on points style distributors.
     
    This is not the case with the 123ignition distributor. The reverse oil groove is also available for the 318I.

      Bluetooth Programmable / BMW M10

      Game-changer. Subj: 1973 BMW 2002 (returned to the living after a 35 yr rest) After months of new points, condensers, caps/rotors, and even a Pertronix upgrade, the mid-range balks were stubbornly staying put. Turns out there was something more fundamentally wrong with the 50 yr old (left-handed vacuum-retard Bosch 0231180008) dizzy. I dropped the 123 unit in and after just "idle tuning by ear" it was running smoothly throughout the entire RPM range with noticeably more power and zip. Big smiles. Very happy to have the programmable RPM limiter and the ability to disable the vehicle with the app as I am sure the door locks are easily jimmied. If my internet search skills were better I could probably find more proper spark & vacuum advance curves online, but even just tweaking the baseline it is good enough for me (a person without access to a dynamometer). Sure wish 123 would have a repository of user-donated curves (hint hint. Ignore what the lawyers are telling you and slap a Use At Your Own Risk banner on the page). Hi Jim thanks for the input.       The 123ignition TUNE+ 4-R-V-BMW (Bluetooth programmable version) performs as advertised on a 1973 BMW 2002tii. The engine is running better following installation of the 123ignition TUNE+ 4-R-V-BMW and companion Bosch Blue coil. The distributor is programmed to match the original factory specifications. The engine revs more readily, pulls better through the RPM range, reaches 5000 RPM with less effort, idles more consistently, plus engine temperature is lower. It’s amazing how correct ignition and timing impact engine performance to this degree. * Note: It is necessary to establish at least one point on the timing curve with a timing light. Thereafter, the timing curve that is programmed into the 123ignition distributor will be correctly positioned on the X-axis of the graph.  On a 1973 BMW 2002tii, that point is 2,700 rpm at 25 degrees, which is BMW’s only specification for dynamic timing on this particular car (all other points on a timing curve which are built into a mechanical advance distributor, or programmed into an electronic distributor) are indexed against this reference point). It is unfortunate that this important step is omitted in the published installation instructions for the 123ignition.

      This is by far the best upgrade I've ever made to my '71 BMW 2002. Worth every penny! The car runs better than ever and picks up speed faster than it did before. My experience may be different than others' since my previous distributor had a faulty vacuum dash pot so it wasn't running well prior to installing the 123 Ignition. Regardless, the Bluetooth options and ease of use (and not having to deal with points) make this distributor a huge improvement!
