Some notes from Bosch
The Red and Blue coils are 'resin' filled, not oil or epoxy filled. The resin they use is tested to be much better than even epoxy when it comes to vibration and mountability.
As for the power output from the coils, the coil industry severely 'pads' their numbers to sell coils. So a 45k volt coil that other companies claim is more like 35k-40k. The Bosch Red coil is better than any other performance coil out because the resin they use inside is much better, and the power output is 'at least' what any others are putting out. A stock coil puts out about 17k volts, and the blue coil is more than twice as strong as a stock coil. The Red coil is stronger than the blue coil by around a 25-30% margin.

Bosch Red Coil
I have installed dozens of these coils onto cars that complete 1000 mile tours on the regular without a single issue. I do particularly enjoy being able to run a wider spark plug gap. Installed primarily on Mercedes Benz & Porsche Cars from the 1950’s into the early 70’s. I have heard of Bosch products being suspect however I only hear it about the spark plugs. Wubester.

Bosch Red Coil
Doesn’t last! Only started the car up 3-4 times since installing. Haven’t even had it in gear and the coil went bad. Poor quality coil. The original coil in my 240z lasted 48 years and continues to work perfectly. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience Travis. Had you purchased it from me I would have exchanged it. Remember coils should not be mounted upside down. Glad the 123ignition is working well for you. Ed
